History of the Mohabs
The Mohabs were founded in the winter of ’74-’75 by thirty-five men from across the country. The group worked as a social organization to enjoy social functions with alumnus and friends of Western State College (Now-Western Colorado University) since inception. In a continued effort fundraising, organizing activities and growing to a greater number of people, the Mohab Foundation of Western State College was developed in 1993.
Foundation scholarships were developed to provide financial assistance to selected WSC students, promoting the value of higher education with surrounding outdoor experiences offered at the school. This scholarship honors students, who, through self determination and self reliance, enhance their lives through experience(s) of Western Colorado University and the Gunnison Valley. The Mohab Foundation of Western State College is a special group of people connected by a very special place. Over the last 31 years, it has provided over One Hundred Thirty Two (132) Scholarships totalling $182,225.00. The Mohab Foundation awarded $12,000 in Scholarships for the 2022-2023 School Year.
